Modern Cardiac Imaging: The Role
of CCTA in CAD Management
Speaker: Dr. Hasan Aydin – University of Health Sciences, Türkiye
Title: Coronary CT Angiography (CCTA) and the role of structured
reporting in contemporary CAD management
🔍 Understanding CCTA
Coronary CT Angiography (CCTA) is transforming the
way cardiologists diagnose and evaluate coronary artery disease. This advanced
imaging method provides clear visualization of coronary vessels and plaque
buildup while avoiding invasive catheter procedures.
📊 Scientific Highlights
🔹 Accurate
CAD Detection
CCTA enables early identification of coronary artery narrowing and plaque
accumulation.
🔹 Optimized
Imaging Technique
Medications such as beta-blockers and nitroglycerin help control heart rate and
improve vessel visualization during scanning.
🔹 Comprehensive
Assessment
The imaging technique also detects extracardiac conditions like aortic disease
or pulmonary embolism.
🔹 Structured
Reporting with CAD-RADS 2.0
The standardized CAD-RADS classification system improves communication between
radiologists and cardiologists by categorizing disease severity and plaque
characteristics.
🔹 Enhanced
Risk Evaluation
Modifiers such as HRP (High-Risk Plaque) and I (Ischemia) help identify
patients who may require further diagnostic or interventional procedures.
🩺 Why It Matters
CCTA plays a critical role in modern cardiovascular
care by offering a fast, non-invasive, and highly informative diagnostic
tool. Structured reporting systems further enhance its clinical value by
guiding physicians toward the most appropriate treatment strategies.
